– to look after the hired items in your possession and bring them back by the return date or arrange to extend the hire prior to the due date.

– to contact us if you have any problems with the hired carrier and related equipment.

Hire Form

  1. A MyTurn check out or google hire form must be completed for each carrier you borrow. Your account details must be accurate & up to date, with your full name, address and contact details, and return date.
  2. Your personal details will be kept in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
  3. We collect, use and process your data according to good practice as laid out by the GDPR Act.

Loan Cost and Duration

  1. All carriers are loaned subject to availability, condition and suitability.
  2. Subject to availability up to 2 carriers may be borrowed at one time. This may be limited to no more than 1 of each carrier type depending on demand and availability. Once a carrier is returned another loan may be made.
  3. The standard hire period is 2 weeks. Each carrier hire costs £10 per 2 weeks.
  4. At our discretion, you may arrange to borrow a carrier for a shorter or longer period. For additional days beyond the normal 2 week period that have been fully agreed in advance we charge £1 per day.
  5. Carriers that are returned early will not receive a refund on hire fees.

Payment terms

    1. Hire fees are payable by cash, PayPal payment or bank transfer if required.

Damage or loss of slings

  1. a) The full replacement of any lost or damaged carriers, accessories or instructions will be borne in full by the borrower, to replace the item like for like. The value of lost or destroyed carriers that you will pay will be the new Retail Price of the carrier irrespective of how old the carrier is.
  2. b) The carrier is returned by post at your own cost and risk (we advise that you use Recorded or Special Delivery and retain proof of postage). Please ensure you allow sufficient time for the carrier to arrive by its return due date.
  3. c) If we do not hear from you within 30 days from the end of your loan, we will consider the carrier stolen and begin legal proceedings.

Postal hire & reservations

  1. For postal loans the standard loan period is for 2 weeks and loan fee and deposits are the same. An extra charge will be made to cover postage and packaging unless stated otherwise. Fees and deposits may be paid by paypal or bank transfer.
  2. Postal hire will be sent tracked and will begin on the day the sling is received and be posted back on the day the hire ends.
  3. Reservations can be made via MyTurn by signing into your account. Please be aware all reservations are subject to the previous customer returning item(s) on time and not extending their hire period. By approving your request we will keep the carrier for you to collect on the day you request the hire start. Alternatively, we will post to you on that day.
  4. Postal loan and reservation services are made available entirely at the Library’s discretion and these facilities may be withdrawn at any time without notice.

Safe Use of Carriers

  1. When using a hired baby sling your child’s safety is your responsibility. All slings in our library are extremely safe when used correctly, however, misuse can cause injury to the wearer and child. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are using the sling correctly and that your baby or child is safe at all times while wearing the sling. Glasgow sling library cannot be held responsible for any accident that results in injury or death whilst the carrier is in your care.
  2. Always follow instructions carefully and check for signs of wear and tear so as not to put your child at risk. Signing this agreement means you have checked and confirmed that the sling is in working order. Check all buckles, hems, and seams ensuring that there are no tears, breaks, crack, or holes. If any damage is discovered, stop using the sling immediately and contact us.
  3. All carriers are provided with instructions for safe use. It is the borrower’s responsibility to ask for a paper copy of the instructions. All instruction manuals can be found online. Contact us if you require a link.
  4. We suggest that, after familiarising yourself with the instructions, you then practice using the sling with a doll/teddy/cushion/pillow so that you get used to the tying/fastening/adjusting methods. It is also sensible to have another adult present on the first couple of occasions you put your child in the sling.

  1. If you feel any pain while using the carrier, change the carrying position or remove the carrier and contact us for advice.
  2. If you are unsure about anything you read in the instructions, are not sure what you’re doing or are at all concerned, please ask us. We can point you in the direction of lots of helpful sites to give you tips to make sure you’re getting the best out of the carrier and using it safely. Alternatively, we can arrange out of hours appointments for one to one help. (fee payable)

Care of carriers

  1. Under no circumstances is smoking permitted whilst wearing or holding the carrier. Please inform us if you are a smoker, or if there is a smoker in your home as we will need to carefully launder the carrier after it is returned. Smoking is known to increase the risk of cot death for babies, and these risks have been linked to babies being in close contact with clothing or objects contaminated with smoke particles.
  2. We cannot guarantee that there are no marks or hairs on the carriers we lend. Carriers are spot-cleaned and only laundered if necessary as freshly washed carriers will not be as soft or flexible as those that are not. If you would prefer to use a freshly laundered carrier please request this before you borrow.
  3. Please, therefore, avoid washing the carrier, though do spot clean any marks when they occur using washing up liquid and water. If you feel it is necessary that the carrier is cleaned while on loan to you, please contact us first for advice.
  4. We cannot guarantee that there are no animal hairs on our carriers, but we ask that all carriers are kept away from pets to minimise this possibility. If you are allergic to animal hairs, please request that the carrier be laundered before you borrow it to help reduce any potential reaction.
  5. Food and posset marks are expected when carrying children, but please keep the sling away from anything that may stain more permanently (oil, paint, pens, etc.), or anything that might damage it (scissors, velcro, keys in your bag, fire, etc.). The cost of damage beyond normal wear and tear will be removed from your deposit.
  6. Please take care when using suncream or similar waterproof creams on the baby. Do not get these on the sling.

All slings, carriers, instructions and accessories remain the property of Glasgow Sling Library Ltd at all times, and all hires are subject to availability and our discretion.
